About The Dashboard:
The Plain Language Policy Dashboard is a project of New Disabled South. The dashboard breaks down complex legislation into plain language, making it easier to understand and making it more accessible. This dashboard aims to have plain language versions of bills in states across the Southern United States. The states we follow bills in at New Disabled South are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Note:
- This dashboard is a project that will continue to grow and change. We will update and change the dashboard as time goes on. Some states may not have any bills yet. New bills will be added over time as they are introduced in each state. The dashboard resources will also grow over time.
- Our goal is that all plain language versions of the bills are as accessible and correct as possible.
- Some parts of the bills may change as they move in the legislative process. Our goal is to update the plain language versions of the bills when this happens. We will make these updates as fast as we can.
- The statuses of the bills may not update immediately, but should update each day.
- We cannot promise that external links will always be accessible.
- We cannot promise that the information from state legislature websites is always accessible.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) gives rules for designers and developers to improve accessibility for disabled people. It has three levels: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. New Disabled South’s Plain Language Policy Dashboard was tested for accessibility by an external agency. This testing found that this dashboard follows the rules with WCAG 2.1 level AA.
